Wm. B. Ide and a Decade of Destiny

Ide Adobe's Exhibits

Our small exhibit facility features three sections: Wm. B. Ide, Pioneer, Bear Flagger, Civil Servant; Writing Home, Ide's Articles and Letters; and Bringing Back the 1850s.

Wm. B. Ide: Pioneer, Bear Flagger and Civil Servant

Wm. B. Ide was typical of the pioneers who crossed the plains during the 1840s. This section describes the journey and some of the hardships typical of the pioneer lifestyle of the period.

Writing Home: Ide's Articles and Letters
In spite of his third grade education, Ide was a prolific writer. His articles sent to the Sangamo Journal from the trail and letters to relatives "back home" offer details on life on the trail and conditions during the Gold Rush.

Bringing Back the 1850s
This section deals with Ide Adobe's living history programs and exhibits items made during craft demonstrations

The Ide Mercantile

The Ide Mercantile is an important element of the Ide Adobe Interpretive Association's fund-raising efforts. All of the profits from the sales of  books and quality reproductions are used to support interpretive programs at Ide Adobe.
Although the sales counter is small, it features an amazing variety of items for sale. Chrissie Clapp, our sales manager, is constantly updating the inventory to meet our customers needs.
