Since the park has only one permanent full-time position and two part-time seasonal positions, it is an active community involvement program which makes the interpretive efforts possible. An example of this approach is the typical staffing for Adobe Day, the park's biggest interpretive event of the year. Normally, Adobe Day requires a staff of 55 to 60 workers. Of that staff, two are paid state employees; the remaining staff are all volunteers.
Ide Adobe draws support from many agencies, groups and individuals. The following are some of the most active:
Red Bluff Joint Union High School District. Docents from Salisbury High School and Red Bluff High School are the backbone of the volunteer Corp at Ide Adobe. Since its inception in 1979, they have provided the staff for the Life in the 1850s environmental studies program for schools. Current and former RBUHSD docents also provide the bulk of the interpretive staff for most of our other living history programs.
Job Training Center. Summer Youth Workers hired through the Job Training Center help make Adobe Day and daily pioneer craft demonstrations possible during July and August. Other Job Training Partnership Act employees assist with maintenance and clerical tasks during the remainder of the year.
Ide Adobe Interpretive Association. IAIA is a state park cooperating association which raises funds to augment the state's budget for the park. Without this assistance, we would be unable to present any of our programs.
