14 years of persistence pays off!
Members of the Crew of '52, a group of staff and volunteers dedicated to building the Woodshop-Smithy building entirely by hand, are entering the final stages of construction of the woodshop section of the building. Many tools are now up on the walls and shelving, cabinets and
special racks are being constructed for the remaining tools. Construction of a carpenter's bench to complement the existing cabinetmaker's bench will begin soon. This long-awaited addition to the park's facilities is generating a lot of excitement. Unit Ranger Bob

How They Said It!, a Glossary of Terms and Phrases of the Gold Rush, was recently published by the Ide Adobe Interpretive Association. The book is a result of ten years of research by author Ben Hughes. It contains more than 900 terms, phrases and proverbs taken from
diaries and other contemporary sources from the Gold Rush era. It is also richly illustrated with drawings from the period. Each entry includes the earliest documented date of use and its sources. The book has received widespread praise from historians
