The Adobe Oak
   A Tree of Record Proportions

The Adobe Oak is a Valley Oak (Quercus lobata) and a member of the white oak group. It is the dominant feature of the landscape at Ide Adobe. A tree of record proportions, it was already a giant when the Adobe was built around 1852.

Valley Oaks were the dominant tree of the Central Valley of California before the arrival of European immigrants. These massive trees produce large numbers of acorns, and thus they were often found at the center of  Native Californian villages.

When last measured during the 1960s, the Adobe Oak was 110 feet tall, and had a limb span of 120 feet. It was more than four feet in diameter.
